On 15th July 2025, the French government issued Décret n° 2025-648, bringing strict new criteria for acquiring French nationality. These rules especially concern language proficiency and cultural knowledge, directly impacting Indian families in France and those planning long-term settlement.
French Language Level Raised → Now B2 (CEFR level) is mandatory in both oral and written skills.
No More Degree Waivers → The old rule that let foreign degree holders (in French) skip the test is abolished.
Civic Knowledge Test Introduced → Applicants must now pass a test on French history, culture, and society.
Effective Date → All these provisions apply from 1st January 2026.
⚠️ In short: Paperwork is not enough anymore. Mastering language + culture is now a legal requirement.
Meet Mr. Rao, a respected Indian businessman who has lived in France with his family for 10+ years.
His belief: “French language and culture are for students — not for families like ours.”
His plan: Citizenship = only paperwork + legal documents.
👉 Reality Check: When Le Frehindi met them during an information session, we explained that the new decree demands:
Proven B2 French skills
Mandatory civic knowledge test
Mr. Rao and his family were shocked. But instead of panicking, they joined Le Frehindi’s language and cultural training programs.
📈 Result: Not only are they preparing for the new requirements, but they also feel more connected, confident, and integrated in French society.
At Le Frehindi, our partner universities in India already run structured foreign language programs that help students achieve B2 proficiency.
These programs were earlier seen as useful for study, internships, and work.
But now, they are also a direct pathway for citizenship preparation.
That’s why our Foreign Language Empowerment Project isn’t just about learning French or German anymore — it’s about life-enabling competencies for a global future.
If you’re an Indian family in France or planning to settle here:
🚫 Don’t treat language + culture as optional.
📚 Start preparing now (students, parents, professionals — everyone).
🤝 Seek training and guidance from expert platforms like Le Frehindi that offer:
B2-level French prep
Civic exam coaching
Cultural integration workshops
France’s nationality process is now deeply linked with integration — language and cultural understanding are at the core.
Stories like Mr. Rao’s show that ignoring this reality can be costly. But with the right preparation, it’s also an opportunity to feel empowered and truly at home in France.
At Le Frehindi, through our work in France and our partner universities in India, our mission is simple:
👉 To empower every youth and family with the tools to succeed, settle, and thrive in a globalized world.
