Live Virtual Tour -Fête des Lumières 2022,Lyon.

Like every year the Live Virtual Tour was organized by Le Frehindi-Paris on 10th Dec 2022 on the occasion of Fête des Lumières 2022 in the beautiful city of Lyon. Students and teachers from varied schools from India & abroad joined in with their families and friends to experience this live spectacle.

Fête des lumières ( Festival of Lights) is a popular event that originally aimed at expressing gratitude toward Mary, mother of Jesus around December 8 of each year. Origins of the festival date back to 1643 when Lyon was struck by bubonic plague. The municipal councilors pay tribute to Mary when the town was spared. Ever since this unique Lyonnaise tradition suggests that every house place candles along the outsides of all the windows to produce a spectacular effect throughout the streets.

During the Festival of Lights for almost 30 years, the city of Lyon is set ablaze in an explosion of color and light. To commemorate this event, every year on the days surrounding 8 December the people of Lyon celebrate the lighting up of their city, showcasing its living heritage. Light symbolizes the rediscovered identity of the city, and takes visitors on a journey through a poetic world, filled with magic and dreams. During the night, multiple areas of the city are reserved for pedestrians only. The festival features light shows, performances, and food vendors.

The two main centers of attraction are typically the Basilica of Fourvière which is lit up in different colors, as well as the Place des Terreaux, which hosts a different light show each year. With the massive use of LED lighting, the essential installations illuminate the Place des Terreaux, the Place Bellecour, the Place des Jacobins, the Saint-Jean cathedral, the Vieux-Lyon, and also the Parc de la Tête d’Or.
